Standards, Diffuse Coatings and Materials, Instrumentation

Since 1999, Avian Technologies has been active in the development of standards, materials and coatings, integrating spheres, and provision of measurement services for the pharmaceutical, agricultural, and optical industries.

Avian Technologies’ standards, all traceable to NIST and NRC, are available for transmittance, reflectance, and fluorescence from the UV to the mid-IR. We also offer several lines of ceramic transfer color standards for the color and appearance market.
Physical Standards

Materials & Coatings Our diffuse reflectance materials and coatings are used throughout the world in a wide variety of industries. Applications for our coatings and materials are found in remote sensing devices, environmental/agricultural monitoring instrumentation, and as standards in biological/biomedical probes. In addition to our regular product line of materials and coatings, we will work with customers to develop modifications of our products to meet the customer’s specific needs. Our coating facility personnel regularly coat items from small custom made parts to large integrating spheres. We also provide expertise for customers who wish to apply our coating products in house. We are one of the few (if not the only) concern doing active research in the development of custom diffuse reflectance coatings, where our customer base includes the Munsell Color Science Laboratory at RIT, General Dynamics, Boeing, and Australian Aerospace.
 

Our expertise in coatings and materials leads to our involvement in instrumentation for the measurement of light. Our integrating sphere lines are used for LED flux measurements in spectroscopy and in spectroradiometry. Our Avian Group USA division has provided metrological instrumentation for a number of laboratories at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Avian Group USA represents Murakami Color Research Laboratories and Zehntner Instruments in the USA providing sales and service for the fine lines of instrumentation made by these manufacturers.
