The name EKF consists of the first three letters of the German words ?development, construction and production” as the main business divisions. Founded 1990, the company extended continually and switched 1996 its headquarter to Barleben, near Magdeburg. Rich in tradition, this city has a notable university and excellent access to major highways as well as to Berlin, the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. Caused by its stronger focus to the medical business, in the year 2000 the company has been renamed to EKF-diagnostic GmbH.

Today, development and production are own divisions, and the EKF-diagnostic sales GmbH coordinates the worldwide distribution and customer support. Additional departments were founded in Moscow and Krakow, added by the SensLab GmbH, Leipzig, incorporated into the EKF-diagnostic Group in 2005. SensLab especially complements the portfolio with Point-of-Care diagnostics and test strip technologies, based on an innovative know-how, international references and manifold patents.

With specially designed microcuvettes a new standard for the determination of hemoglobin and hematocrit is established.
